RETRO PERIOD CIRCA 1935-1950

The Retro era brought a new futuristic look to the jewelry industry. The pieces in this era were mostly made of yellow gold or sterling silver and lacked gemstones due to wartime shortages.

Retro jewelry was large, chunky and futuristic. You can see most of the jewelry from this era showcased one or two large stones. Illusion settings in engagement rings was a staple in the Retro era along with synthetic rubies.

When looking at the jewelry from the Retro era you can see that they somewhat resembled the geometric jewelry from the Art Deco era except the Retro pieces were three-dimensional, not flat.

Retro era jewelry was made during World War II and much of it was melted down during hard economic times. When you find a piece from the Retro era it is like finding a true treasure from that uncertain but heroic time period!
